It is our responsibility as educators to nurture and develop the instinctive learning capabilities every child, every day. The ultimate aim of the learning journey is for each child to become confident, competent, resilient and well educated individuals who are ready to take on life’s challenges and who have the skills and knowledge to make a success of whatever they choose to do. I aspire to instill the love of learning in my students while developing skills such as confidence, resilience, respect, problem-solving and critical thinking which today’s students need to be successful 21st-century citizens. I will teach my students that mistakes are awesome as I want them to understand that making mistakes means they are taking risks and learning new things.
Aside from changing careers and becoming a teacher, I am also a mother to 3 beautiful boys aged 8, 5 and 3. So yes, I lead a very busy life, but I love every minute of it! My household is noisy and chaotic but full of laughter and love, and together with my husband and 2 dogs we make the most of every minute we spend together. Our whole family are passionate Melbourne Demons supporters and after many years of suffering, maybe 2018 is the year the Dees finally win the flag!? I love to keep fit and on weekends you’ll usually find me scoring junior basketball games, taxiing my children around to various extra-curriculum activities, and relaxing when I can find the time!

Chris Davies – Music
Hi, my name is Chris Davies, and I am very excited to be the Music Teacher at Bridgewood Primary School. My teaching experiences have mostly been: Year 5 & 6 classrooms, LOTE (Indonesian), PE and, of course, Music from F-6. Recently, I spent two terms as Acting Assistant Principal at my currently school.
I play piano and am familiar with quite a few other instruments too. I follow the Musical Futures approach; our students will learn like musicians, with time to practise and then perform. A very hands-on approach with plenty of performances for families and friends to enjoy. Performing creates such a buzz of excitement and I get just as excited as the students. I have an interest in musical theatre and regularly attend shows in Melbourne. I have performed and directed with BATS Theatre Society (a local theatre group) in the past. There are many educational benefits of learning an instrument and more benefits from getting on stage and performing. I also support a Year 10 band called “Marvel Eleven”, who began in my Year 4 music class. It’s great to catch up with them and listen to their music.
If you don’t find me in a music room, you’ll find me on a basketball court somewhere in Victoria. I am heavily involved in basketball, coaching a local team at Dandenong and a Head Coach within the junior representative program at Casey Cavaliers. I’ve also had experience coaching at state level (including national and international competitions) and been involved with elite training programs in Victoria. Some of my previous players now play NBL, NBA and even AFL.
In the little bit of spare time I have, I enjoy playing with my Labrador puppy, Igor. He’s a very friendly and happy dog. I often spend time in school holidays spoiling my nieces and nephews, and Igor loves having them visit.
The other day I had a big shopping spree to order instruments and equipment for our music room and recording studio, and I’m so excited to get started. I’m thrilled to be a founding staff member at Bridgewood PS, and I’m looking forward to meeting the creative students and their families, and sharing our musical talents with this new community. See you all soon!
